About Diamonds
Diamonds, commonly called the king of gemstones, derive their name from the Latin word “Adamas” meaning unconquerable. This directly refers to its high hardness, to which no other natural mineral compares till date. The Diamonds have a Moh’s hardness of 10, and a refractive index ranging from 2.417-2.419. It is said that only a Diamond can scratch a Diamond, and for that reason, they are considered as an eternal gemstone.
Diamonds are generally graded on a fixed scale which ranges from D-Z, where D is the purest shade of white. The value of Diamonds depends largely on the rarity of their occurrence in Nature. Colorless diamonds are considered more valuable when compared to light brown or light yellow colored diamonds.
However, when the diamonds have a vivid and fancy shade such as Red, Pink, Green, Blue, Orange, Yellow or Brown, their value can easily surpass any known gemstone.
