About Aquamarines
Aquamarine is the blue or bluish green variety of the mineral group beryl, which also contains varieties like emerald. It has a Mohs Hardness of 7.5 - 8 on a scale of 10. The refractive index of an Aquamarine ranges from 1.564–1.602.
It occurs in pegmatites like all beryls and is relatively cleaner and larger when compared to emeralds. The name which is derived from "aqua" meaning water, depicts the shade of blue that this gemstone possesses. Aquamarine is one of the most popular blue gemstones and is ideal for any kind of jewellery.
The best gems combine high clarity with limpid transparency and blue to slightly greenish-blue hues. Like many beryls, aquamarine forms large crystals suitable for sizable fashioned gems and carvings.
